Frequently asked questions

General
What does Singlespeed mean?

A singlespeed bike is a bike with only one gear. There are single speeds with a rigid gear and those that have a freewheel. The former are also called Fixie (from the English "fixed gear" = rigid gear). When the wheel turns, the pedals automatically turn with it.

What does rigid running mean?

Fixed-gear bikes have only one gear and do not have a freewheel. This means that the cranks rotate continuously, making the cadence dependent on the speed. Our fixie is a singlespeed bike, which can be converted from freewheel to rigid with flip-flop rear hub.

How can I repair my bike?

The best way to do this is to come by our bike store or contact a bike mechanic in your area.

Does my bike need a service?

Our bicycle mechanic recommends one check per year. For your bike service, you can always come by our bike store. Even if you need to repair your bike, you can turn to us.

Does Siech Cycles also have children’s bikes?

Yes, we offer 2 different sizes of kids bikes, each with adjustable saddle: A running bike for kids between 2 and 5 years and a kids bike for kids between 3.5 and 6.5 years. Children's bike 12 inch: Available in pink, chrome, white and light green. Each 12 inch kids bike comes with lightweight steel frame and a woven bike basket. Children's bike 16 inch: Available in pink, light green and light blue. Each 16 inch kids bike comes with lightweight steel frame and front and rear brakes.

Do I need a bike light?

Yes, bicycle lighting is mandatory in Switzerland. We carry battery operated bike lights with LED in silver and black. If you prefer a battery-free light, our light with magnetic system is just right for you.

Is it possible to mount a bike basket on the bikes?

Yes, a basket can be mounted on the Siech Cycles. We have baskets in silver, black as well as hand woven natural willow bicycle baskets. The natural willow bike basket is also available for the children's bike, in brown and black.

Can you mount a luggage rack on the Siech Cycles?

Yes, on all our bikes (fixie excluded) it is possible to attach luggage racks. We carry a silver and a black model.

Does Siech also have bicycle accessories?

Yes, with us you can buy the right bike accessories. You can find the following stylish accessories for bikes in our online store: bike basket, luggage rack, fenders, grips, handlebar, bike saddle, bike light, bike bell and bike lock. In addition, we also offer Trouser Straps, which act as a trouser protector. The bike accessories are suitable for all Siech Cycles except for the Fixie Singlespeed Bike. If you are visiting our store in Zurich, you can also buy a bike helmet or bike socks to go with your bike.

How many gears do I need?

The steeper the trails you want to tackle in your daily life, the more gears are suitable. For flat paths our Fixie Bike is suitable, for climbs we recommend Siech Cycles with 8- or 16-speed. 8-speed bikes: 8 Speed Lady Comfort, 8 Speed Lady City, 8 Speed Men Classic, 8 Speed Men Race, 8 Speed Men Urban 16-speed bikes: 16 Speed Lady City, 16 Speed Men Urban

Which type of bike suits me?

This depends in particular on the type of terrain and the length of the routes you want to cover with your bike. A racing bike is more for those who like it fast and agile, while with a city bike you can also sometimes be leisurely on the road. City bikes: A city bike is characterized by a narrow tire thickness. This makes you agile and able to keep up well in city traffic. For asphalt roads with inclines, a bike with gears is suitable, such as the men's bike 8 Speed Men Urban. The sporty 8 Speed Men Race racing bike is also ideal for city traffic. Bikes for asphalt & dirt roads: Siech Cycles with wider tires are ideal for dirt roads, as they offer better grip. The women's bike 8 Speed Lady Comfort as well as the 8 Speed Men Classic and the 16Speed Lady City are perfect companions for the outdoors.

Which frame size fits me?

The frame size is related to your height. Therefore, a larger frame size is suitable for larger people, and a smaller one for smaller people. Each ladies bike at Siech has a frame size of 48cm and is suitable for a body height between 155cm and 175cm. The men's bikes have a frame size of 58cm and are suitable for a body height from 160cm to 185cm. With these masses we have adapted to the average of all Swiss*innen, so that our bicycles fit as far as possible for all. In addition, the handlebars and saddles of the bikes can be adjusted in size, which allows the most precise adaptation to your needs. You are unsure which size (women's bike or men's bike) fits you best? No problem, you can always stop by our store in Zurich and take a test drive.

What do I need to consider when buying a bike?

It is primarily important that your new bike feels good and that you feel comfortable riding it. To do this, you need to choose the appropriate frame size. In addition, your future bike should be suitable for your desired area of use: Whether city bike, road bike or an all-rounder bike, with us you will find everything you need for your daily bike route.
